Not Just a Thrift Store – St Vinnies

This is the place to go for affordably priced used furniture in Tacoma, hands down.

There are corridors inside AND outside full of various types of furniture.

We even spotted antiques at prices that nearly blew our hair clear off our heads.

Unlike some of the other larger thrift stores, St. Vinnies don’t over-charge for their items and the donated clothing are given fair pricing across the board rather than being priced by brand. We saw mid-century antiques at shockingly affordable pricing, one of us even ended up purchasing an antique wicker rocker of book nook dreams.

Now let’s talk about their mission and what they are besides just a thrift store. At Urban Business, we really like to make connections with other non-profit organizations in Pierce and King County that give back to people in need.

Here are some of the things they are doing for our community:

• They help people struggling to pay for basic needs like rent and utilities, by providing direct financial assistance.
• They help families and seniors stay in their homes, preventing homelessness.
• They provide clothing and household goods for people making a fresh start.
• They hire people to work in our thrift stores, many of whom are re-entering the workforce following personal crises.

We did notice a sign at checkout that they are hiring and pay starts right at around near $15/hr. Various positions were available.

In 2019, they provided more than $580,000 in direct financial assistance to more than 17,700 people in Pierce County. Donations and proceeds in South Tacoma and Summit go directly to help those in need.
